... golf Chautauqua!

For well over 100 years, golf has been a part of the Chautauqua experience. From the first "links" course laid out in 1896 to the first nine holes opened in 1914; and from the completion in 1924 of our original Donald Ross-designed 18-hole course to the addition of a second 18 holes, completed in 1994, the Chautauqua Golf Club has offered a high quality golfing experience that invites the novice but also challenges the experienced player. Situated on rolling terrain with frequent panoramic views of nearby Chautauqua Lake, our courses have played host to outstanding professionals including Ben Hogan, Gene Sarazen, Walter Hagen and Cary Middlecoff as well as famous visitors to the Chautauqua Institution including President Bill Clinton in 1996.

'Best Little Golf Town in America' ----- Golf Digest, 2003

"Jamestown, NY is (or should be) a regular golfer's mecca.

Why Jamestown? Start with Chautauqua Golf Club, a few miles outside of town. Chautauqua's Lake Course (four-star in Places to Play) was designed by Donald Ross in 1913. The Hill Course doesn't have quite the provenance -- X.G. Hassenplug finished it in 1994 -- but it gets similar raves and another four-star ranking in Places to Play."

25-acre Practice & Teaching Facility
First phase of new facility to open in 2008

Construction is under way on an exciting new addition to the Chautauqua Golf Club -- a complete and unique public facility for teaching and practice. When finished, the 25-acre site will boast a 350-yard driving range with four target greens and separate tees for instruction and daily practice use. Both of the tees will feature both grass and artificial turf surfaces. The facility will also include two 6,000 square foot putting greens; a chipping green complete with fairway, rough and practice bunkers; three practice holes, ranging in length from 100 to 250 yards; a support building with bathrooms; and parking. Designed by golf architect Ed Beidel of Washington, DC, the facility is intended to serve young and old, beginning golfers learning the game and experienced golfers looking to hone their skills. Ideal for families, school golf teams and community agencies as well as individuals, the facility will offer group clinics, weeklong classes and outstanding private instruction.
